They’re Coming For Our Wine- Fight Back!
Apparently, the Board of Stupervisors in Fauquier is on a mission to torpedo their county’s burgeoning wine industry. Read about it here. There is a public hearing set for tonight in Warrenton to determine whether or not to limit events at wineries, especially events after dark. Because pumping money into the local economy, and supporting wineries (who take up valuable real estate upon which there should sit cheaply built McMansions, packed cheek to jowl, don’tcha know?) is a bad, bad thing. Encouraging the creation of a craft product that is helping to put Virginia on the international map? Eff that, man. It’s much better to focus solely on being a DC bedroom community, and sit there whining to your constituents about how haaaard it is to provide infrastructure and county services when there’s no real industry in the county. If it comes to that, it will be because YOU made it happen, you clowns.
I’m pissed. Are you? Let’s go tonight and give ‘em hell.

What ever happened to “preserving agriculture in a business friendly community” that the county has on their welcome signs?
Our day jobs kept us from getting to the meeting, but the folks at Phillip Carter Winery let me know via twitter that no decision was made, but the public hearing was kept open for the time being. There’s another hearing in December as they’re now trying to pass a Blue Law that restricts hours of operation at wineries so that they have to end at 6pm. We’ll do everything we can to be there, please join us to show your support for VA wineries.
